Dr. Benjamin Kang, DDS, PhD

Benjamin Kang, DDS, PhD, is a Los Angeles native who has been practicing general dentistry in Washtenaw County since 2016. He is the newest member of the Ann Arbor Smiles team.

Dr. Kang graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 2016, after earning his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of California Los Angeles, master’s in biology at California State University Los Angeles, and his PhD in oral biology, also from UCLA.

Dr. Kang uses his research background to make evidence-based decisions in clinical care. He enjoys comprehensive treatment planning that keeps the patient at the center. His interests include implant, cosmetic dentistry, and full-mouth rehabilitation.

Dr. Kang’s interest in dentistry began in high school when he attended a church mission trip to Paraguay. He saw firsthand how the team dentists compassionately treated patients who had little access to care.  That inspired him to study bone pathology and regeneration at UCLA, and he has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Kang is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, the Washtenaw District Dental Society, the American Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He also serves as an adjunct clinical assistant professor of dentistry at UofM.

When he’s not working Dr. Kang enjoys spending time with his family and working on his new home. He is a member of Grace Ann Arbor church, and lives in Pittsfield Township with his wife, Jane, and two children, Bennett and Ruby.
