Gentle Dentist

Ann Arbor smiles seeks to be your gentle dentist. We provide quality compassionate care and high-quality dental work. During your visit, we work to reduce any fear of dental procedures and dentists. In addition, we want to your appointment to be as pleasant as possible. Please speak to a member of our staff to talk about your options for an anxiety reduced visit and gentle dental care.

It’s okay to be apprehensive about the dentist, but it should not stop you from seeking dental care. Your doctor can provide you with ideas and options to reduce your anxiety and to remind you that you are in control of your appointment.

Gentle Dental Care

Your gentle dentist will make sure that you are adequately numbed before beginning a procedure. Also, some sedation methods can allow you to sleep through your dental appointment. Furthermore, you can always communicate or raise your hand during an appointment to stop or to take a break.

Ann Arbor Smiles also encourages patients to bring in their favorite music and headphones to provide a calming background during a procedure. During your appointment, you can also request memory foam cushions and blankets to increase your comfort.

Sedation dentistry is also a choice for any procedure from a simple cleaning to a complex restoration. Ann Arbor Smiles offers different sedation options based on your level of anxiety or intricacy of the procedure.

  • Nitrous Oxide Sedation, or laughing gas, a low level of sedation with a mild pain relieving effect. This type of sedation wears off before you leave and you can drive yourself home.
  • Oral Conscious Sedation, a moderate level of sedation taken in pill form by the patient an hour before their appointment. This type of sedation requires you to have someone accompany you to and from our office.
  • IV Sedation, a high level of sedation that allows you to be in a semi-awake state for your appointment. This level of sedation requires preparation before the appointment, accompaniment to and from our office, and requires aftercare.
